Sermon Notes

Tree of Life - Culture of Death Series
"How Now Shall We Live?"

Pastors Dave Scherrer and Mike Brown
April 29, 2007

  1. How Now shall We Live?
  2. We are a people free in Christ.
  3. For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly. Romans 12:4-6
    • Faith
    • Obedience
    • Abiding
    • Fruit
    • Good works
  4. The list of Life Issues is long, Jesus helps us choose
  5. Some issues:
    • Contraception
    • Artificial insemination
    • Cloning
    • Eugenics
    • Genetic engineering
    • Sex selection
    • Organ harvesting
    • Quality of life
    • Cosmetic surgery
    • Abortion
    • Capital punishment
    • Euthanasia
    • Use of force
    • Slavery

  6. For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. Romans 12:3
  7. What if I look and don’t see any actions?
  8. Feeling unqualified, disqualified, fearful or that someone else is better
  9. Because I don’t care
  10. Don’t see my own works
  11. Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2
  12. Freedom: People not causes . . . Grace not guilt
